RE: The final decision - on the road

Best suggestion is to find the place now that will take care of you and your fur friend. Since you don't have an allegiance to any particular one, you can even check pricing. Seems very cold, but it isn't cheap. If you are on the move from day to day, then when you check in the place you will be, ask the campground office for recommendations. Our local funeral home also takes care of cremating pets. They don't do it themselves, but will transport etc., so even if the local vet does not, there may be a funeral home that will help. I am so sorry that this is happening. I side with the others...stay with your traveling companion if you can. My thoughts are with you....

RE: Radiation therapy

We do understand....after the diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma - this was after emergency surgery to save Maicey from "bloat", I HAD to know. My husband had said no to chemo due to travel, cost, etc. I met with the oncologist anyway, and she told me that it may only buy her 3 months and that she wouldn't recommend it for Maicey. I was bawling my eyes out the whole time, and that dr. could have taken me for anything I had. As it was, Maicey lived for 16 months. In other words, just do what you know in your heart is the right thing to do. Please do keep us posted... Jana

RE: Radiation therapy

Viajo - I have only prayers to offer, not advice. I'm sorry about this situation....You are right, they aren't "interchangeable", but will help with the pain of any decision making. In the meantime, give lots of hugs.... Jana

See, Richard? Remember when you were trying to get elected for that commissioner position? Well, it seems the big guy upstairs already knew there were bigger things for you to take care of! RV'er of the Year and a book to write seems like the plan for you for 2009! Hope you are having a great time.....

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

The baby is beautiful......I miss that part sometimes. My boys are 10 and 11 and still are very demonstrative with hugs and kisses. They go to my school where I teach and it is nothing for one of them to sneak up behind me and give me a hug or kiss. I have never thought much of it because that is how our family is, until one of the teachers mentioned that was so neat that they would do that. Wow. Something I had totally taken for granted, yet apparently is rare for the teachers to see. At times, when we had had a rough morning, I would sneak into their rooms just to give them a quick hug and move on. I always explained either before or later to their teachers. And sometimes, there are kids that would say hey I want a hug, and once I even hugged every kid in the class. I feel so blessed right now! Ok...how in the dickens did I get so far off topic??? It was the baby! Enjoy every minute because those years just fly! For all those traveling, be careful. We will also be heading to PA over the holidays....Gary, maybe we will pass each other on the street and never even know it! Happy Holidays everyone!

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Ryan - can't wait to see the pictures of Alyssa....Is this yours and Beth's first? Either way, from one mom to another, the excitement, panic, fear, etc all goes away and I would have done it a thousand times! Good luck! Richard, there is no way we can make it to the event in April. We will be in school. The publicity this will bring to Waynesboro should greatly help raise awareness of the plight of the animals. Gary - I don't think I ever remember reading your article you wrote. It is very well written and for those that don't know the story, it really sums it up. Gentle Spirit...Wolfie - As for the behavior specialist, I think that is a good idea. This from the one who has a name of someone locally, but hasn't called her yet!. I would NOT get another dog until the behavior of the first one is under control. Since it is so recent that you lost - was it Brandy? - I think there is too much emotion running there. I understand everything you have said, including the hubby issues. Been there, done that! The thing is, we now have 2 dogs that like to dig holes in the carpet and chew up the couch. Just a thought....has he been neutered? Seems that that has helped with the running off of some dogs. There are also some meds that may help if it is just anxiety. It may be helpful to start your own thread about Wolfie. Not everyone reads the Old Fella thread like me, and may have some good ideas for you. Too all FOOFs.....gotta run...church then HOPEFULLY shopping will get done today! Enjoy your day and watch that snow and ice and freezing temps on this the first day of winter! Jana

RE: kitty cat

I remembered reading about a black cat that had been missing, then realized it had been yours. I am sorry you haven't found him yet. I think that would be the worst thing to not know. I hope someone on here may remember something....

RE: Travel Dilemma

Pets CAN be a hassle, and depending upon the stress of the job, reason for the trip, the need for some true relaxation, etc., I feel would determine whether you take them or not. Personally, I don't EVER leave mine at home if I can take them. We will be away over the holidays and can't take them but will have a housesitter come and stay at the house to keep them company. Good luck with your decision.... Jana

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

We ended at 66, although they said results were not necessarily finalized. I guess that is kind of like the political elections! One in Columbus OH was just finalized recently. The good thing about this is that more attention was brought to the plight of animals, just like Old Fella. Off and running on a typical Monday......Have a good day, FOOFs. Jana

RE: Coping with beloved pet's death

We've been there and understand that pain. There is really nothing like it. It gets easier, more laughs about what they used to do rather than tears. In the meantime, allow yourself your tears and understand that we are there with you.....

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I hope that Bullet finds a home with someone like he lost. Didn't you say he lived with an elderly gentleman? Is there anyone out like that? It reminds me of the story you wrote last year around Christmas..... I voted today, and guess tomorrow will be the last day. We are at 65. At first a little disappointing, but when I looked at New Rattitude which is in the number one spot in GA, I found that there were several New Rattitudes. Their position was in the THOUSANDS!! So to think that Old Fella is in number 65 is pretty darn amazing!!! We may not win the $10,000 but we all know its a winner in our hearts!
